Until now, skin actives such as vitamin C and Arbutin were considered to be potent anti-pigmentation agents. However, after 18 years of thorough research, experts at L’Oréal Laboratories uncovered a new active, MelasylTM. It has proven to be more effective than 5 of the leading anti-pigmentation actives* - Vitamin C, Arbutin, Tranexamic Acid, Kojic Acid and Glutathione.
Over 100,000 molecules were screened to evaluate the production of melanin from normal human melanocytes (cells producing melanin) and 2-MNG, i.e. MelasylTM was discovered as the best candidate.
A series of tests were conducted to assess MelasylTM's environmental profile, safety for human health, efficacy on cells and reconstructed skin, and to optimise its formulation to confirm its efficacy. Finally, the molecule was tested for its efficacy on all skin types and tones and displayed visibly better results.

MelasylTM primarily interacts with and captures unpigmented melanin precursors. The molecule then inactivates these to deliver even skin tone while targeting localised pigmentation. Unlike other anti-pigmentation products, MelasylTM remains respectful of your skin and does not hamper the natural biological pathways that occur in the skin. The molecule does not inhibit Tyrosinase (melanin-producing enzyme) and simply captures the melanin precursors before they are transformed into visible pigment and goes on to inactivate them, preventing excessive accumulation of melanin pigment in the epidermis for an even-toned skin.
