You may find that your skin reddens or peels after a microdermabrasion session. This is perfectly normal and not an allergic reaction.
However, do postpone your appointment if you have a breakout of eczema or any open sores on your face. It's also vital that you avoid scrubs and exposure to the sun for at least 3 days after a microdermabrasion session.
Give your skin a little break!
One of the best things about microdermabrasion is that the results are immediate: softer, smoother, radiant and even-toned skin. Plus our skin looks even better after a couple of days! With each session wrinkles are smoothed away, surface blemishes are zapped, pores are closed and blackheads become a thing of the past.
So why not book a pro to sand your face instead of your walls?
Microdermabrasion is a cosmetic treatment that improves our skin by deeply exfoliating its layers. The upper levels of our skin are 'sand-papered' away in order to remove suffocating dead cells and restore our healthy glow. Think of it as a skin-friendly Black and Decker. A machine is used to blast the face with tiny particles that buff away dead cells, impurities, pollution, smoke, make up and grime that's accumulated on its surface.
Microdermabrasion is designed to deeply clean skin. Its exfoliating action reduces unsightly pores and leaves skin clean and glowing. It also hydrates skin, reduces lines or wrinkles, fades hyper-pigmentation (caused by the sun or pregnancy masks) and sorts out oily skin problems (acne scars, blackheads, cysts and clogged pores).
It's frequently used to treat normal skin but still works well on anyone who wants to:- wake up their complexion- deal with oily skin and open pores- banish mild acne or get rid of any leftover scars- minimise the signs - erase stretch marks on their cleavage.
Usually applied to the face, neck, cleavage and hands, microdermabrasion can effectively wipe out lines and wrinkles.
How?
By sanding away skin, our complexions improve. Skin-dulling cells that cling to its surface are removed and cell renewal is given a boost. Our skin immediately looks younger - fine lines disappear and signs of ageing slow down.
Don't panic, no one's going to attack you with sheets of sandpaper... This is a completely pain-free process! There's no need to prepare your skin beforehand. And microdermabrasion doesn't require a local anaesthetic. You'll be asked to lie down and it takes about half an hour. A dermatologist will use a microdermabrasion machine to mechanically exfoliate your face, whilst pumping it full of active ingredients suited to your skin type - hyaluronic acid, vitamin C...
It may feel warm, but nothing more!
Dermatologists often warn against using kits at home because they don't provide the same results as a professional machine. Indeed, doing a microdermabrasion session at home is no more effective than using a scrub. So if you want to see good results and avoid harming your skin, book an appointment with a dermatologist - they're really the only ones who can effectively deal with tenacious blemishes.
