Before you don your PJ's, make sure you give your face a gentle, evening cleanse. The aim? To get rid of any make up or impurities that have built up throughout the day, so that you wake up to squeaky clean, glowing, perfect skin. Go for rich textures that not only feel sumptuous but also hydrate dry skin, soothe sensitive skin, comfort mature skin and nourish tired skin. Facial cleansing oils, lipid-rich lotions, purifying mousses... Just make sure you avoid tap water and classic soaps that are too harsh and micellar water, which cleanses but doesn't nourish.
After cleansing, apply a hydrating, anti-ageing night cream. It's not the end of the world if you stick to your day cream, but night creams are more nourishing and gorged with active ingredients designed to boost cell renewal. Our skin repairs itself at night; the epidermis clears toxins and regenerates. The idea of a night cream is to give skin a helping hand, whilst it's not being exposed to temperature changes, stress, sweating or other elements that can cause a flare-up. Your night cream can then get to work on soothed skin and combat cell ageing whilst gorging it with vitamins that will repair any damage your epidermis has suffered during the day. If you're over 35, go for a cream that's packed with anti-ageing active ingredients. Those of you with mature skin should apply a nourishing cream, as our skins tend to become drier with age.
Night creams are great. Night masks take things to another level! Whereas some masks are designed to be left on for a few minutes, regenerating/hydrating/nourishing night masks are meant to be kept on all night. Don't worry about them staining your pillow - they're neither greasy nor sticky! Night masks often contain essential oils that will deeply nourish and repair your epidermis whilst you're sound asleep. You'll wake up the next morning to a plump, radiant and moisturised complexion without a trace of tiredness in sight... Baby soft, perfect skin guaranteed! You'll look bright-eyed, bushy-tailed and ready to attack your day.
