Her Career

Aishwarya Rai was born on the 1st of November 1973 in Mangalore, Karnataka. She decided to finance her Architecture studies by taking a part time job as a model, which led to the turning point of her career, when she won the Miss World Title in 1994.

She then became famous, and made her acting debut with Iruvar (Tamil), directed by Mani Ratnam and Aur Pyaar Ho Gaya (Hindi) in 1997, for which she won two prizes: the Star Screen Award Most Promising Newcomer and the “Discovery of the year” award. Bollywood then takes a huge interest in her and she plays in almost 20 indian movies.

International Roles

Her first international movie is Devdas in 2002, where she plays the beautiful and proud Paro, a role that gets her her second Star Screen Award. It’s the start of her worldwide career, that leads her to take a role in Bride and Prejudice, an adaptation of Jane’s Austen classic novel: Pride and Prejudice and received a Best Breakthrough Performance nomination by the Washington DC Film Critics Association for her work in this movie. She alternates Bollywood and Hollywood productions like The Pink Panther 2 or Chokher Bali. In 2003 she became the first Indian actress to be a jury member at the Cannes Film Festival.

In 2009, Aishwarya Rai received the Padmashree, which is the highest honour bestowed upon by India to an individual, for their contribution to performing arts and entertainment from the hands of the President of India. Aishwarya Rai’s amazing face, gracious beauty and fascinating green eyes make her one of the most sublime actresses in the world.
